Moving and Packing Tips

Moving day can come with a lot of overwhelming emotions. Happy, sad, exhausted, or even stressed out. Downsizing, decluttering, and tidying up—we’ve all heard it before, but where do you even start? At True Neighbor, we want to help make moving day less overwhelming by providing our top moving and packing tips.

Checklists are Your Best Friend

Creating your own checklist may be stressful or stressless, depending on what type of person you are. Organization is key when it comes to moving, and the proper checklist will help keep your priorities in order. You may want to start your moving checklist a few months out, so when it comes to moving day, you will be prepared for whatever that day throws at you. Your moving checklist should include a change of address, services like internet, water, and trash that needs canceling, as well as packing and storage, and more.

Throw it Out

Just throw it away. When you are packing up to move, there is no better time to purge your unwanted or unused items. When you get rid of or donate unwanted things, it will make your moving and packing process go that much smoother. You will have less to move and less to put away at your next location. Here are some guidelines we recommend following when trying to throw something away.

  • You don’t use it
  • It isn’t sentimental
  • It’s outdated
  • It has a thick coat of dust on it
  • You have more than one
  • Just in case things
  • Any items that are damaged
  • Expired items
  • Those “one day it will fit” clothes

THROW IT AWAY!

The Early Bird Gets the Worm

Closing on a house typically takes around four to six weeks, but once you have an inkling that you are going to move, it’s good to start downsizing and decluttering as soon as possible. Waiting until the last minute to pack will put a lot of stress on you. You need to give yourself enough time to go through everything and decide what you want to keep or throw away. The earlier you start this process, the smoother your move transition will go.

Checklists, throwing things out, and decluttering early are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to moving and packing. There is so much to do in so little time, but we believe that your move will be successful if you follow our simple tips and tricks. If you have already thought about selling your house but don’t know where to begin,  contact True Neighbor. We want to help you sell your home for cash… fast.
